Classic Call of Duty games coming to PlayStation
Activision's Treyarch has recently announced that it is porting the classic Call of Duty: Black Ops and Black Ops 2 games to the PlayStation. According to the developer, Iron Galaxy is responsible for the port, which will include campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies mode. These games were originally released in 2010 and 2012, respectively, for PC, PlayStation 3, Wii, and Xbox 360. So far, the games can be played on PC via Steam or on Xbox One and Xbox Series through Microsoft's backward compatibility program. The PlayStation port was confirmed by Treyarch's tweet, which did not specify whether there will be graphical or performance improvements. Additionally, it was not mentioned whether the existing PC and Xbox versions will be updated. The news is particularly relevant, as the PlayStation 5 does not have backward compatibility with PS3 releases, meaning games like Red Dead Redemption and Metal Gear Solid 4 can only be replayed on modern platforms through port, remaster, or collection. Treyarch also announced that studio head Mark Gordon has left the company after 22 years at Activision. The studio will be taken over by Yale Miller and Kevin Hendrickson, two veterans of Call of Duty. The leadership change occurs after the departure of other studio heads at other companies. The news that classic Call of Duty games will be available on PlayStation is a good news for fans of the game and the platform.
